Goal 11 of 40- "Get Published"

It's long been one of my goals to get some of my writing published and today was the day! Our church does something really cool called "Gone for Good." Almost every month, we join a few others churches leaving our church buildings to serve the community. With Gone for Good coming up, I decided to do a user-submitted story to bakersfield.com. They liked it and asked me to write a story for the paper. YEA! I did some temp. work at the Californian last Spring as a Research Assistant for Kern Life magazine. My work was published in this magazine, but most of the work was just updates and research. This is my first article published real-deal true blue me!

Goals 1-20 (of 40)

If you are a friend or family member of mine, I want to invite you to join me in my 40x40 adventure. Pick a goal & do it with me! Many of these are memory-makes, life-builders and relationship-boosters... so it makes it all the more fun to do them in community! Join me!

1. Buy a motorcycle

2. MAKE A DAY DOING BOTH SURFING & SNOWBOARDING: Start early in the morning on the coast with some surfing. End it around lunch time & drive a few hours to the mountains for some boarding! Example.

3. Appear on a game show

4. Pay off car!

5. Become a better American: read a good book on American history & actually try to remember some of it.

6. Learn smalltalk (I’m open to suggestions!)

7. Learn to ride a unicycle (Possibly one of the coolest things a person can do!)

8. SWIM AT THE EDGE OF VICTORIA FALLS: You can actually swim at the edge of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe in what’s called Devil’s Pool, a natural rock pool at the very top of the falls with a height of about 100 meters.

9. Hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon

10. Learn stickshift

11. Get something published (The Californian Newspaper, Saturday March 21 2009, Faith Section, “Living the Faith”)

17. Fly in a hot air balloon

18. Pay off student loans & become debt-free!

19. Get involved in justice in a way that really makes a dent!

20. Go with Matt to Hawaii

Why goals?

I'm a big fan of living life on purpose. I think if there's something you wanna do, you should make the effort to make it happen. Really, we only have one life to live.It also helps me to evaluate who I am and what I want to do with who I am. There is a lot of value in refining who you are-- keeping the growing process alive!

Before I turned 25, I made a list of 25 things to do. BUT, I only gave myself 1 1/2 years to complete my goals. I was able to get most of them done. In order to even accomplish the goals, they had to be pretty small (though there were a couple bigger ones in there including trying out for American Idol). If you rush, the results aren't good; they're just results.

I am 2 1/2 years to my 30th birthday, so I thought I would do the same for that big birthday. But as I was thinking, I decided I would expand my goals to 40 things to do before I turned 40. This way, I have more time and I am able to do some bigger goals. This blog will document my goal journey.

I suppose this is a bucket list of sorts. But it's more of a 'before i die...' it's more of a 'i want to live!'

Stay tuned for a listing of the goals.
